Avocado Mousse

Let me tell you this is the best avocado mousse I've ever tried. To be honest, our very first avocado mousse recipe was a failure as the avocado flavor was too strong and didn't bring out the chocolate flavor enough. Since then, however, we have refined the recipe enough and found the perfect ingredient to tone down the avocado flavor. The end result is a decadent, rich, creamy, pudding-like, chocolatey, and nutrient-dense mousse that will make you want to buy way too many avocados.

Avocado Mousse Ingredients

The best part about this recipe is that you only need a handful of ingredients but you end up with a dessert that will blow your mind!

  • Avocado - The star of this recipe! Avocado is key to the rich and decadent taste of this mousse and its amazing pudding-like texture. They are also super nutritious and add a healthy aspect to this dessert.

  • Cacao - We used dark, organic cacao powder.

  • Peanut Butter - We recommend using unsweetened, smooth peanut butter. Adding peanut butter helps cover the strong avocado flavor. PS; this is the key secret ingredient, so don't skip it!

  • Maple Syrup - This creates texture and an almost natural sweetness. If you want the mousse to be less sweet, start with just a ½ cup and taste to see if more could be used.

  • Almond Milk - Feel free to use any non-dairy milk you like.

Avocado Mousse Tips

  • Ripeness - Try to use soft and slightly unripe avocados as this creates great texture but without adding that strong avocado flavor to this recipe.

  • Texture/Temperature - Whether you choose to refrigerate the mousse for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour to get a thicker, mousse-like consistency, or just eat the mousse without chilling it first, whichever you choose, both options are great. If you eat it right after blending, the texture is very pudding-like!

  • Portion Size - Depending on whether you're serving this mousse as a dessert or simply making it as a quick snack, the size will vary.

  • Chocolate Flavor - If you're looking for an even richer chocolate flavor, add melted chocolate to a blender or food processor along with the remaining ingredients.

  • Time - Depending on your decision, i.e. whether you want the mousse to be cool or not, the total time will change accordingly.

  • Garnish - Top your mousse with non-dairy whipped cream, chocolate chips, berries, or cacao powder.
